About Our Research
The MIT Omnichannel Education Lab is uniquely qualified to pioneer research in omnichannel education.
Our groundbreaking online MicroMasters® program was the first of its kind at MIT when it launched in 2015, as was our blended program at MIT that continues to combine online and on-campus education at the master’s level.
We’ve delivered more than 45 massive open and online courses (MOOCs) to learners in more than 190 countries. Upwards of 400,000 learners have enrolled and we’ve conferred more than 40,000 certificates.
Leading companies use our courses to educate their employees. We have developed and delivered tailored omnichannel education programs for companies across industries including energy, heavy manufacturing, and retail among others.
While these efforts are advancing omnichannel education, this is a relatively new field and more research is urgently needed. We base our research on observations and outcomes from the MITx MicroMasters in Supply Chain Management, using big data from more than five years of learner engagements. With machine learning techniques, quantitative and qualitative analyses, our lab conducts innovative theoretical and applied research to improve educational outcomes.
